Clearly, Legowelt (a.k.a. Danny Wolfers) is a bit of an eccentric. For more than a decade, the Dutch producer has been turning out various shades of electronic music, utilizing literally dozens of different monikers in the process. The man works at a remarkably prodigious rate, a pace which incredibly only seems to increase with each passing year. Amidst all the releases—not to mention the countless tracks he posts online that never officially see the light of day—Wolfers somehow manages to not only maintain a true clarity of artistic vision, but also an impeccable level of quality. Dabbling in house, electro, techno, disco, ’80s funk, freestyle, and more, Legowelt can be always be counted upon the celebrate the wonders of vintage synths and drum machines, yet his music never comes off like a rehash or a simple exercise in nostalgia. His latest outburst is The Paranormal Soul, a full-length for the storied Clone imprint. The album dropped last week, so we figured now would be a good time for Wolfers to work a bit of his weird magic on the XLR8R podcast series.

Nosaj Thing, one of the more thoughtful emissaries from the L.A. beat scene, returns with new album Home next year. Lead track ‘Eclipse’/’Blue’ is a guttering piece of melancholic electronica, made all the more affecting by some keening vocals from Blonde […]

- Goodknight Keaton Feat. Mereki – Next to Mexico
At its core, music is pure escapism. If you strip away all the fluff, people put on a record to transport their thoughts–to slip out of the now and into the past, the future, and to fantasy land. Whether I’m closing my eyes and envisioning a stroll on the moon (thanks Pink Floyd) or Margaritas […]

- [Indie Pop] HAIM – Don’t Save Me (Video)
California’s sisterly trio HAIM balance shooting hoops and rockin’ out pretty nicely in their new music video for that sassy, endlessly contagious track “Don’t Save Me”. The song, along with “Send Me Down” (which we featured here not too long ago), is out now on iTunes. A full, proper album is supposedly in the works, but no details have been released as of yet. Considering all that we’ve heard so far, it will be worth the wait.

- FEATURE CUTS and his “Perfect 10”
Reminding us once again that all good things come in ten’s, Feature Cuts soldiers on from his Beatles & Cassius expressions (back in May / June) and motions these pearls of wisdom with more integral purpose than wannabe manager-in-training crouched down outside of a shop with a Kindle on its lap, or a pubescent, long-haired […]
Comparable to a multitude of little sparrows gliding and floating away to pastures new, this is Vito De Luca’s Belgian-bred project called Aeroplane. Formally known as a duo-based venture (together with producer Stephen Fasano who left in 2010 and has now gone on to become The Magician), Vito De Luca and Stephen Fasano collectively constructed […]

- Video: Black Spade – “Nobody’s Fool”
“Nobody’s Fool.” Um. Hell yeah. This Black Spade video for “Nobody’s Fool” is as ridiculious as the song itself. So happy to see our (multitalented) dude putting out some solo stuff. The smokey ambiance and camera perspective surrounding Spade’s fervent delivery in an empty loft and a youth uprising is downright chilling. The parallel […]
